CASE STUDIES
BUXTON ‘PASSIVE HOUSE’
Buxton, Australia
Buxton Passivhaus is a purpose-built sustainable home designed for long-term living, performance and minimal environmental impact. Created by a retired couple passionate about Passive House principles, the home is carefully positioned within its bushland setting to maximise solar gain, natural ventilation and resilience to both fire and flooding.
Timber cladding plays a central role in the design, requiring a protection system that supports durability without compromising the natural aesthetic. CUTEK® Extreme CD50 was specified for its ability to stabilise timber and protect it from moisture-related movement, helping reduce warping, cupping and splitting over time.

Initially, the timber was coated with CUTEK® clear oil, allowing it to weather and silver naturally in line with the home’s organic intent. Over time, the decision was made to introduce CUTEK® Colourtone, Goldtone to better preserve the timber’s appearance while providing added UV protection. The homeowners have been extremely pleased with the richness of the colour achieved, along with the simplicity of an annual maintenance cycle.

By penetrating deeply into the wood, CUTEK® continues to protect from within, supporting both the performance and evolving aesthetic of a home designed to last.
