GRAND HOTEL, MACKINAC ISLAND

Michigan’s historic Grand Hotel is home to a 660-foot porch, believed to be the longest in the world. The restoration aimed to recreate its welcoming 1920s character, returning the feeling of relaxing on your own front porch and ensuring photographs taken 100 years apart remain remarkably consistent.
Thermally modified Ash from Thermory was prefinished on all six sides with CUTEK® Extreme. By penetrating deeply and controlling moisture movement, CUTEK® helps minimise cracking, warping and dimensional movement. As it does not form a surface film, it will not peel or flake.
With work only possible during the hotel’s winter closure, in some of Michigan’s harshest conditions, the porch is being completed across three stages.
Stage 1 and 2 are complete with Stage 3 to be completed this winter.
