Pressure-treated wood is a durable wood product designed to resist biological decay and insect attack, making it well suited for exterior weather exposed applications. This treatment significantly extends the service life of the wood compared to untreated wood.
However, pressure treatment does not make wood water resistant. Like all wood, pressure-treated wood will still absorb and release moisture, which can lead to swelling, shrinkage, warping, cupping and splitting.
CUTEK® Extreme clear oil enhances the performance of pressure-treated wood by helping to manage these moisture-related issues. As a penetrating mineral oil, CUTEK® is absorbed deep into the wood, where it helps reduce moisture movement and significantly improve dimensional stability.
Unlike conventional surface coatings, CUTEK® Extreme clear oil does not form a hard, film-forming layer. Instead, it penetrates into the wood and remains active within its structure, continually helping to displace moisture, minimising the swelling and shrinking that naturally occurs in wood exposed to the elements.
This internal, non-film-forming protection works in harmony with pressure treatment to improve long-term performance and durability.
CUTEK® Extreme clear oil can be applied to pressure-treated wood either before or after installation. Once treated, the wood can be wet stacked immediately, making it suitable for both factory and on-site application.
CUTEK® Colortones provide UV protection for your wood. Plus, they help maintain the wood’s natural color, or achieve a desired tint for your wood. When using CUTEK® Colortones, it is important that the wood has a moisture content of 17% or less. Excess moisture can affect color development, leading to unwanted darkening or uneven results.
For best outcomes, it is recommended to test the selected CUTEK® Colortone on a small, inconspicuous area first. If the appearance is not as intended, allowing additional drying time before full application can help achieve a more consistent and predictable finish.
