The deep black tones contrast with the surrounding rock, grass and sky, allowing it to stand out while remaining grounded in its setting.<\/p><p>Originally coated with a film-forming product, the charred timber began to crack and break down under the region\u2019s harsh conditions, creating an inconsistent appearance and ongoing maintenance issues.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1833\" height=\"1031\" data-id=\"11971\" src=\"https:\/\/cutekwoodsolutions.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/C-Study-Wanaka-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11971\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1833\" height=\"1031\" data-id=\"11969\" src=\"https:\/\/cutekwoodsolutions.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/C-Study-Wanaka-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11969\"\/><\/figure><\/figure><p>The owners transitioned to CUTEK\u00ae Extreme with a double-strength Colourtone Punga, enhancing the richness of the charred finish while maintaining the timber\u2019s natural character. Unlike film-forming coatings, CUTEK\u00ae wood oils penetrates deeply to stabilise the wood from within. This is critical in W\u0101naka\u2019s demanding climate, where UV, temperature swings and moisture exposure can accelerate timber movement.
